A new dispersal order has been imposed on the Monks Hill estate to curb antisocial behaviour.

The six month order follows public concerns about intimidation and harassment by groups in public places and runs until Saturday May 10, 2014.

The Monks Hill order includes Selsdon Park Road, Farnborough Avenue, Lomond Gardens, Broadcoombe, Warren Avenue, the Shepherds Way service Road, Tedder Road and Edgecoombe.

The order empowers police to tell people in groups to disperse, either immediately or at a stated time and in a stated way; tell people who don't live in the affected area to leave; and tell people who don't live in the affected area not to return to the area or any part of it for a certain period- for example, 24 hours.

Councillor Simon Hoar, cabinet member for community safety welcomed the order and said Croydon Council will continue to work with the community to prevent the minority causing unrest and upset.

Superintendent Rob Atkin said: "Dispersal orders are a useful tool in helping us in our war against crime and antisocial behaviour.

"This new order will help local officers identify and target the small minority of people that are causing problems and take effective action to prevent them from disrupting the lives of others in the local community."
