A man who died after he was hit by a train at Wimbledon station last week has been named.

Leon Blanchard, who had played for Teddington Hockey club since he was a boy, died following the incident on November 6.

Ambulance crews were called to the station shortly after 1pm but the 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement from the club said: "Everyone at Teddington Hockey Club was stunned to hear this week of the loss of Leon.

"Leon, (who was 20) was the oldest of the four Blanchard boys who have all been members of Teddington Hockey Club since they were old enough to join.

"As they grew up most members were aware of the constant support of his father Paul, who has always been a big presence at the club and his mother Clare.

"In the early days all the boys were supported whatever the weather by Connie, their Grandmother.

"Leon played in all ages as a junior and last season played for the Mens’ 2nd XI winning the National 2nd XI Cup.

"Our thoughts are with his family, Paul and Clare and Leon’s 3 younger brothers, Rory, Ali and George."

Tributes were paid tribute to the 20-year-old on twitter who was described as a “phenomenal guy” by the University of the Arts London Men’s Hockey club where he had studied.

His death is being treated as non-suspicious.

An inquest into the death will be held in due course.
