Nearly a quarter of adults living in Elmbridge are drinking above the recommended guidelines, the council have revealed.
The statistic has been publicised ahead of national alcohol awareness week, which is being supported by the Elmbridge Community and Safety Partnership.
The campaign, which runs from November 18 to November 24, aims to promote the safe and sensible consumption of alcohol.
Guidelines recommend men do not drink more than three to four units daily and women no more than two to three units a day.
In the borough, about 24 per cent of adults drink above these limits.
Councillor Christine Cross, portfolio holder for community development, said: “We’re supporting alcohol awareness week as it is a timely reminder for residents to think about their alcohol consumption, especially in the run up to the festive season.
“It is easy to get into a routine of regular drinking, but by making a few small changes to your current habits you can make big differences to your long term health.”
