An explosion was narrowly averted yesterday when a homeowner returned and smelt gas.
A Leatherhead fire station spokesman said they were called to the address in Kingston Road in Leatherhead at about 3.30pm.
He said: "Someone had left the oven gas tap on. The person came home, smelt gas and called the fire service.
"It could be the tap was only slightly on but gas is particularly dangerous because all it takes is one spark, from something simple such as turning on a light, or a build-up of gas to cause an explosion."
