A cannabis factory that took up three floors of a semi-detached house in Sutton has been shut down by police.

Officers stormed the house in a dawn raid yesterday in Sutton Court Road and discovered the large factory with plants at various stages of maturity.

A man was arrested and taken for questioning at a south London police station.

Officers smashed the door of the house to get in

The raid was arranged after neighbours contacted police with suspicions about the house. A team smashed down the door and entered the large house where they found the man asleep on a mattress between the front door and the bottom of the stairs.

A sniffer dog helped with the search of the house

A search, aided by a police sniffer dog, revealed plants in the dining room, three bedrooms and most of the loft.

Officers also discovered an exposed electricity box that had been rewired to help supply the house with the vast amounts of power needed to cultivate the plants.

Police said the box could have been highly dangerous, possibly fatal, to anyone who touched it.
