Tributes have been paid to the cyclist killed after a collision with a bus in East Croydon.

Roger William De Klerk died after the collision in Addiscombe Road at the junction with Cherry Orchard Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The 43-year-old was an IT consultant and lived in Vancouver Road, Forest Hill.

Until recently Mr De Klerk worked on the IT service desk at publishers HarperCollins.

Today his former employer paid tribute to a "popular and helpful man".

A spokesman said: "We are very saddened by the terrible news that our former colleague and friend Roger de Klerk was killed on Tuesday in a traffic accident.

Roger worked on the IT service desk here at HarperCollins for several years and had left only a couple of months ago to start a new business venture of his own.

"Roger was a popular and helpful man and he’ll be much missed by everyone who knew him at HarperCollins. All our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."

Darryl Ramsay worked with Mr De Klerk at a direct sales and marketing company in Croydon between 2000 and 2002.

He said: "Roger was a lovely, friendly and genuine guy.

"In the office you knew when Roger was around as you heard his laughter in the next room.

"He loved life and warmed a room with it whenever he was present.

"He wasn't the best sales person around, however he did really try hard all the time and if it wasn't working, he would simply laugh and try again."
