A man was taken to hospital following a hit and run in Battersea last night.
Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were called to Battersea Rise at the junction with Northcote Road at 8.50pm to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
A spokeswoman for London Ambulance said they sent two responders in cars and two ambulance crews to the scene.
She said: "Our staff treated a 34-year-old man who was conscious and breathing. He was taken to St George's Hospital as a priority."
One eyewitness who did not want to be named, said: "As the driver came to the crossing he slowed down, then put his foot down just before the man got past his car."
A police spokesman said about an hour after the incident a man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of the accident.
He remains in police custody.
