A small army of volunteers waded into the River Wandle earlier this month as part of a sponsored clean up.

The Wandle Trust, working with estate agents Seymour Green, hosted the event on November 10, which was attended by 73 people.

Among the items hauled out of the river was a tumble dryer, a wheelbarrow, tyres, bicycles and car numberplates.

Erica Evans, from the Wandle Trust, said: "What a great clean-up, we had lots of local people and even students from American International University (Richmond Hill Campus) in the river wearing waders fishing out unwanted waste from the river.

"Anything from tyres, bicycles to car number plates, we really can see an improvement from doing these clean-ups regularly, which is great."
