50 YEARS AGO: November 23, 1963

A family of Christian missionaries were all set to leave civilisation in Malden to find an Indian tribe in South America, learn their language and then translate the Bible for them, the Comet reported in 1963. Mr and Mrs David Meech asked for prayer to find the right tribe at a farewell meeting at Canbury Park Hall.

25 YEARS AGO: November 25, 1988

Four-and-a-half tonnes of waste paper, or 50 trees, were collected by Friends of the Earth and Kingston Council in a new experimental paper recycling scheme. Friends of the Earth’s Rob Lake told the Comet: “Everyone who has brought their paper has made a real contribution to protecting the environment.”

10 YEARS AGO: November 21, 2003

A buck deer died after charging head first into a Renault Laguna in Richmond Park, escaping from an alsatian near Richmond Gate. Derek Glen, a 50-year-old sales manager, saw the deer stagger around and back up and die after its antlers crashed through the roof of the vehicle. The alsatian owner ran away.
