Nine rugby pitches worth of roads have been repaired by Surrey County Council as part of the pledge to tackle the streets worst affected by winter damage.
In September, the council’s cabinet allocated £5m of funding to fix more than 600 roads affected by ice and snow last winter.
So far, 63,725sq m of repairs have taken place on 332 roads across the county and another 278 roads are awaiting the same treatment.
John Furey, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “Keeping Surrey moving is essential, and this council is working flat out to ensure our residents and businesses have safe and congestion-free roads to drive on.
“As well as our five-year, £100m project to overhaul the roads in Surrey that need it most, careful financial planning allows us to spend extra money on improving 200 miles’ worth of other roads that were damaged by expanding ice last year.”
