As the temperatures begin to drop, there is no better time to pull out the hats, scarves and gloves, get your skates on and head out on to the ice in front of Henry VIII’s picturesque palace, writes Laura Proto.

Whether you are with a group of friends, on a family outing or just want to show off your grace on the ice, the Hampton Court Palace ice rink is the perfect place to enjoy yourself as the festive season draws nearer.

Skaters can take in the atmosphere of the historic spot alongside the Thames, which comes alive with an added wow factor when the palace becomes illuminated.

People who see themselves as Bambi on ice and would rather have a peaceful evening taking it all in, the ice bar and cafe next to the rink will serve hot drinks and festive treats.

Skating sessions last for one hour, running from 10am to 10pm seven days a week and wheelchairs are welcome.

For those who need a little extra help away from the edge of the rink, ice guides are available for groups of up to 15. Youngsters are welcome, but under-12s must be accompanied on the ice by an adult.

Tickets are now on sale for all dates and there is advance booking for time slots in the Christmas and New Year period.
