Crystal Palace Transition Town is to launch a community guide to shopping and eating in Crystal Palace.

The directory celebrates the myriad of shops, artisan workshops, pubs, bars, markets and eateries on offer in the area and aims to back the local economy and promote community life.

Crystal Palace Transition Town has produced 5,000 of the pocket-sized guides, that also offer tips to a more ethical and sustainable approach to shopping.

Annabel Sidney a steering group member of Crystal Palace Transition Town and Chair of the Picture Palace Campaign said: "We are very lucky to have such a mix of shops and our local businesses deserve our support.

"They have chosen to put down roots in Crystal Palace because they see and experience qualities that reflect their own personal and social values. They are passionate about what they do, have great product knowledge, provide a personal service and often stock locally made and unique products."

The guide will be launched on Saturday and has been timed to coincide with National Small Business Saturday.

Robert Gibson on the board of Crystal Palace Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Upper Norwood Library Trust said: " I would like to pay tribute to Crystal Palace Transition Town for their incredible efforts in putting together this fantastic guide."

The guide will be distributed from a stall outside Sainsbury's from 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday.

Crystal Palace Transition Town is appealing for volunteers to man the stand and distribute the guide.
