Croydon boy band Rough Copy will discover tonight whether they have made the final of the X Factor.

The trio from Croydon received positive feedback after their performance of Destiny's Child hit Survivor.

Speaking ahead of their performance, the band made up of -Sterling Ramsey, Joey Thomas and Kazeem Ajobe- said the song was a perfect way of describing their nine weeks in the competition.

“Survive, that word alone after what we went through- what better song to take you to the final hopefully,” they said.

“The song for us is like a statement, we had our ups and we had a lot of downs, this song shows that we are survivors.”

After their high energy performance, Nicole Scherzinger who had been up and dancing, said: “This competition, the semi finals have finally begun thank you for that.

“You guys you bring the excitement, you bring the tempo, you bring the life, you bring the energy to the show, this is what we need.

“This is the RC anthem, you are survivors and you will survive your way to the final.”

Louis Walsh praised the band but was met with boos when he told the trio they needed to “tone down” their performance.

He said: “Every week you bring something because nobody works harder than Rough Copy, the dancing, the energy- everything was brilliant. I would probably have toned it down just a little bit.”

Sharon Osbourne described the song as the perfect choice for the band, but said was also met with boos from the crowd after revealing she agreed with Louis.

She said: “Ok perfect song for you you do bring such a good spirit to the show. However, it's too overload for me, people humping the floor, backpacks– just pull the reins in a bit.”

But the boys mentor Gary Barlow hit back saying: “This is not the time to pull the reigns in, it's the semi-final. That was electric. The vibe in this room suddenly went up 10 gears.”

Rough Copy later took to the stage again for the Elton John half of the show, where they sang Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.

Despite being concerned about the difference between Elton John and themselves as artists, they received Nicole said: “Pack your backpacks 'cause y'all deserve to be in the finals- absolutely. That was beautiful, understated, each one of you is so strong but together you boys had the chemistry and the fire. I am so proud of you that was beautiful.”

Louis agreed, adding: “Guys I love this song so much better than your other song. This is what I love about you the harmonies, it was a brilliant song choice.

“It was slick and like I always said, there is a massive gap in the market in the UK for a group like you, so guys I hope you make it through to the final because on that you deserved it.”

Sharon told them: “Do you know what? You three men were naked- NAKED! With nothing, no backpacks, no caps, none of all that stuff and you nailed it. You nailed- it was elegant, I thought you were Boyz II Men, I loved it- fantastic. I applaud you.”

Gary rounded up the judges comment telling them: “Boys its an important week for us, we have got to get to the final this week because in the history of the X Factor, the groups that get to the finals- JLS, One Direction, Little Mix they go on to do incredibly well and I would be so proud to see you guys have a journey like that. So best of luck- I hope people vote.”

The band will learn their fate in tonight's Live results show on ITV1 at 8pm.
