An estate agent has given our Shine On appeal a boost and helped a brilliant charity for people with learning disabilities.

The Epsom Guardian launched the appeal for the charity, based in St Barnabas Church, Temple Road, Epsom, in May, to help it raise £75,000 by April so it can keep running its weekly social club, Kites; its advocacy programme and friends scheme.

Estate agents Aston Mead, based in Waterloo Road, Epsom, raised £267 towards the appeal as part of the evening celebration for the town’s Christmas lights switch-on last month.

It asked residents to guess how many balloons were stored in the company’s micro car.

Winner Julia Hills was awarded a £50 Marks and Spencers voucher as her prize, with the money raised through entries donated to The Sunnybank Trust.

Dorothy Watson, leader of the Kites club, said: "We were thrilled with the generosity and spirit of Aston Mead.

"This is exactly what we need - support like this from the local community.  Thank you."

In October, the charity bravely accepted almost £300,000 of National Lottery funding to expand its services and help more people - but the money cannot cover its day-to-day costs and is conditional on the trust match-funding the amount.
