Carols rang our around the Whitgift Centre last week, when pupils from across the borough sang for shoppers.

Students from Cumnor House School, Royal Russell School, Elmhurst School, Oakhyrst Grange School and Warlingham Park school sang on the stage, under the Christmas tree in Whitgift Square to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

They performed Christmas songs and played musical instruments while volunteers collected money for the charity.

Ross Fitzsimons and David Gregory from Crystal Palace FC made an appearance in the afternoon and signed autographs before warming up their voices and joining in with the carol singing.

Karen Green, Volunteer Press Officer for Marie Curie Cancer Care said "It was a wonderful day and I am so grateful to the schools and collectors for coming along once again to support us.

"We had so many wonderful comments from the shoppers about the schools singing and everyone was filled with festive cheer.

"We have 13 nurses who work throughout Surrey and the money raised will fund the nursing care over the Christmas period."
