Shoppers and those visiting their families in Croydon this Christmas can enjoy the festive period without the fear of a parking ticket.
Croydon Council has decided the entire borough will be free from parking enforcement on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve there will be no enforcement of the usual parking regulations in council-run car parks.
There will also be no enforcement of the usual parking regulations in on-street parking bays within the central zone, with regulations being relaxed in all other zones after 5pm.
However, yellow-line restrictions will still be in place on both these days and motorists are advised by the council to park in a reasonable manner.
Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for environment and highways, said: “As usual at this special time of each year, we’re taking the opportunity to give a little back to the residents of, and visitors to, Croydon by relaxing the usual restrictions.
“All we’d ask is that motorists act in a sensible and thoughtful way, ensuring that, when they leave their car, they do so in a manner that’s not going to be a nuisance or hindrance to others.”
Croydon Council has also cut prices at the Spices Yard car park and from, December 30, motorists can park for free for up to half an hour in South End and the section of Selsdon Road between South End and Bartlett Street.
A free ticket from a nearby pay-and-display machine will need to be on display.
