Two children with serious illnesses celebrated Christmas with the stars at a party in Downing Street.

Georgia Strudwick, nine, from Purley, and Harlem Ellis, five, from Upper Norwood, visited Number 11 earlier this month.

It was transformed into a festive wonderland with plenty of baubles, tinsel and even a Santa’s grotto.

Among celebrities including Chelsea FC’s Frank Lampard and Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint in attendance at the party.

The party was thrown by the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a wish granting charity for seriously and terminally ill children.

Starlight puts on a year-round programme of entertainment to provide "wonderful distractions" from their intensive treatment in hospitals.

Georgia suffers from Rett syndrome, a severe, life-long neurological disorder, and she had her wish to have a sensory bedroom granted in October 2013.

Harlem suffers from Noonan Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, and his wish is to have a holiday in a treehouse which Starlight is currently working on granting.

Rt Hon of the Exchequer, said, "I’m very proud to host The Starlight Children's Christmas Party at No 11 Downing Street and it is wonderful to be able to bring some much-needed Christmas cheer to these very poorly children and their families.

"I would like to extend my thanks to all the celebrity guests for making this day so special for the children."
