New Year's Eve revellers are being treated to free travel.

Anyone travelling from between 11.45pm on December 31 and 4.30am on January 1 will not have to pay to use the tube, buses, DLR, Tramlink and London Overground.

The initiative is being sponsored by drinks brand Diageo in a bid to encourage party-goers to plan ahead and get home safely.

Celebrations across the capital include a fireworks display at the London Eye, with large crowds expected around the Thames.

Party-goers are advised to only take a black cab or a pre-booked cab, while app Cabwise allows users to book a cab closest to their current location.

MPS Safer Transport Command will also be on patrol to ensure revellers get home safely.

Tube, DLR and Tramlink services will run all night on New Year's Eve, but some stations may be closed completely for crowd control and safety reasons.

Andrew Cowan, country director of Diageo, said: "Our brands are synonymous with celebration – and what bigger celebration is there than New Year’s Eve?

"We want everyone to enjoy themselves and we want to make sure everyone can get home safely."
