Croydon council are encouraging residents to take a walk in the in the borough's many parks and open spaces.

The borough has 127 parks and every month there are guided walks led by countryside wardens, Friends of Parks and members of the Downlands Countryside Management Project.

There are also a range of sports and fitness facilities in some of the open spaces. The council has recently invested money in upgrading some of them.

Facilities include pitches, tennis courts, outdoor gyms and trim-trails.

Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said: “Last year Croydon became the UK’s latest ‘Heart Town’ in partnership with the British Heart Foundation.

“We’re committed to helping residents find a healthy lifestyle that's easy to maintain and will keep them fit and well.

“Our many parks and sports facilities mean there are hundreds of options to be explored and it should be possible for everyone to stick to their healthy New Year resolutions.”
