Those who have vowed to quit smoking for their New Year’s resolution are being urged to take advantage of a number of support services.
Helping people to give up smoking is a major priority for Croydon Council after they became a Heart Town last year.
It is a five-year campaign run by the council in partnership with the British Heart Foundation to tackle and raise awareness of heart disease.
There are a range of services to available to support those who want to quit smoking.
People can go to the council’s healthy living hub in Central Library where they can receive one-on-one support.
There are also specialist services at Croydon University Hospital.
Those wanting to quit can also visit the Solutions 4 Health mobile clinic in High Street, Croydon or at New Addington market.
Councillor Margaret Mead, cabinet member for health, said: "The dangers of smoking are well-documented, as are the benefits of quitting.
"But it is often overlooked how difficult it can be for smokers to give up.
"That is why there is support that can be tailored to different people’s needs and really make a difference to help people improve their health.
"A lot of smokers would like to quit, and we urge them to get in touch and find out about the help available."
