A 71-year-old man who used to run a community bus for deprived children in Croydon is due to appear in court charged with historic sex offences against two boys.

Arthur Blackman, of Forsyte Crescent, South Norwood, is accused of committing a serious sexual assault on a boy who was aged between five and eight at the time.

The offence allegedly took place between 1961 and 1964.

He is also charged with gross indecency with a boy then aged under 14, during the same period.

Blackman ran the Croydon Community Bus from 2001 to 2006.

He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The charges result from an investigation by detectives from Sussex police after information was received by police for the first time in 2012.
