A self-professed home cook has swapped her Thames Ditton kitchen for a television studio cooking for world-renowned chefs.

Chloe Campbell, 24, made the final 12 contestants on new Channel 4 show, The Taste, and is now cooking to impress judges Nigella Lawson, Anthony Bourdain and Ludo Lefebvre.

Miss Campbell, a nanny, applied for the show last year after her granddad pointed out the advert seeking contestants in a supermarket magazine.

She said: “He said I should go for it and try it so I sent off an application and a few weeks later, went to an audition where I had to take two different dishes for them to try.”

With her goats cheese and stilton tart with caramelised onion chutney and panna cotta with autumn fruit compote in hand, Miss Campbell impressed the judges and made it through to the final 25.

In the first show, aired last Tuesday, contestants were whittled down to 12, with Miss Campbell making it on to Team Ludo.

She said: “I went there [to the audition] and thought I would just give it a go. When I got through at first, I couldn’t believe it and then I got through last week. It is amazing.

“The judges are lovely. Each one of them brings something different and they were really nice when I met them.”

Miss Campbell, a former pupil at Cardinal Newman School, Hersham, said she was particularly star stuck when she met Nigella Lawson.

This Tuesday, wannabe chefs will prepare a “classic dish with a modern twist” to impress guest judge Richard Corrigan with the help of their group mentor.

Miss Campbell said Mr Lefebvre introduced her to new ingredients she had yet to try cooking with, including lobster and crab, before making a second dish without help for the judges to try.

Miss Campbell said: “Being part of the show has been an amazing experience. My family are proud of me and it is nice because my granddad was the first one who said to go for it. It is nice that he told me I could do it and I have got through.”
