A multi-million lottery fund application to improve Crystal Palace Park has been rejected.
The £4.5m application, which went to the Heritage Lottery Fund, outlined a range of improvements for the park including better visitor facilities.
It was put together by Bromley Council, the Mayor of London and a number of community groups.
A statement from the HLF said after the announcement from the ZhongRong Group detailing their £500 million plans for the park, they felt the application was of lower priority.
In October Chinese billionaire Ni Zhaoxing chairman ZhongRong, said he plans to rebuild the Crystal Palace and restore the surrounding park.
Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of Bromley Council said, “We are absolutely committed to securing much needed improvements at Crystal Palace Park and this latest news is clearly disappointing.
“Perhaps understandably, with the potential full restoration of the park a real possibility, the application was not successful but it would have been wrong not to pursue this option and apply for the grant.”
