Power is out at 18 properties including a newsagent and post office just down the road from flooding in Ewell Village.

The Londis, in Market Parade, is near flooding in the High Street outside the entrance to Bourne Hall Museum Park.

Councillor Pamela Bradley, from Ewell, said she had just returned home from visiting the newsagent and post office where power was out.

Coun Bradley said: "The two attendants are sitting in the doorway looking very dejected. We are really in a bad way. We are flooded all the way around Bourne Hall lake."

A manager at the Major Plaice, next to Londis, said: "I think it is just the electricity in there that has gone. At the fish and chip shop there is no problem."

A pond fed by a spring overflowed last week, inundating the pavement by the Dog Gate entrance to Bourne Hall Park.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: "UK Power Networks engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore electricity supplies to 18 customers affected by a power failure in the Market Parade area of Ewell.

"A fault developed on the underground distribution network at 7.30am today. We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
