Widow of former Crystal Palace chariman Ron Noades launches Noood winter warmers
A knitting enthusiast is hoping her new fashion item will get more people going out in the Noood.
Rather than wearing less layers however, Novello Noades, of Purley, wants her new idea to help people wrap up warm.
The Noood, which has already been sported by the likes of Ian Wright and TV weather girl Sian Lloyd, is a versatile wool accessory which can be worn in a number of different ways including as a hat and a collar.
Mrs Noades, who is a keen knitter and has designed items for Ronnie Corbett and Sir Cliff Richard, came up with the idea when she was on a train to Paddington last year during the cold weather snap.
The former teacher said Mr Noades, her husband for more than 30 years, was a great help in getting the product off the ground and was always a supporter of the idea.
The former Crystal Palace chairman died at Christmas following a long battle against cancer.
Mrs Noades has taken a community approach to her work and has employed a team of knitters from the area to help create the products.
The aim is to now make it an established brand before bringing out a summer Noood in the near future.
In February Novello’s team will have a stand at the prestigious fashion trade show Pure London, which runs from February 9 to 11.
Mrs Noades said she has been delighted with the progress made so far.
She said: "We had a lot of challenges creating the Noood as we had to decide on how thick it would be and whether to do children’s range and things like that.
"We have had a fantastic response though and a lot of reorders from people who have bought Nooods already.
"The aim is to encourage people to use their imagination when wearing the Noood and we aim to set up a selfies page so customers can send in their best Noood photo."
