Being good at cracking safes would land most people a stretch inside but one group of Croydon teenagers has been rewarded for their skills with a trip to Israel.
The team of physics students from Trinity School, Shirley Park, Croydon, spent three months building a safe before taking it to the UK final of the Weizmann Safe Cracking Competition.
While they cracked safes by solving two physics riddles, the groups from other schools tried to break into their hook a duck safe.
Safes had to keep their peers stumped for at least 10 minutes but be opened by their creator in less than five minutes.
As the Trinity School team’s safe was judged to be the most impregnable they will be off on an expenses-paid trip to the international final at the Weizmann Science Institute in March.
