A Croydon girls' school has finished top of the class when it comes to preparing for GCSEs, according to official Government league tables.

Coloma Convent Girls' School in Upper Shelley Road has topped the the list of Croydon schools for results in the English Baccalaureate (EBaac) - a GCSE performance target where pupils must obtain a C grade or better in the core subjects of maths, English, history or geography, sciences and a language.

Coloma finished top in 2013 with 81 per cent of students reaching the target - placing the school in the top five percentage nationally.

A Level students also achieved success, with some students winning places at Oxford and Cambridge and others joining prestigious Russell Group universities.

Headteacher Maureen Martin said: “We are delighted with the results and particularly pleased with the EBacc pass rate, which confirms our commitment to offering our pupils a demanding academic curriculum and providing the best opportunity to achieve excellent results at GCSE as part of an all-round education.

"This provides the best preparation for the wide range of A Level courses that are available at Coloma.”
