Midwives are ‘thrilled’ after the maternity services at Croydon University Hospital were rated above the national average in a patient survey.
NHS England has published the friends and family test scores for maternity units nationwide for the first time and Croydon mothers gave the hospital’s birth wards a score of 79.
This is four points higher than the national average of 75, and the London average of 62.
And for the post-natal wards the hospital has been given a score of 65, compared to a London average of 53.
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust’s director of midwifery Ann Morling said: “We knew from the recent Care Quality Commission report that the improvements we were making were working but it’s the opinion of the mums that use our services that really matter.
“I am truly thrilled that they have given us such positive feedback about their time with us.”
The score is calculated by taking the proportions of respondents who would be extremely likely to recommend an NHS service to their friends and family then subtracting the respondents who would not recommend the service, by ticking the response categories neither likely nor unlikely, unlikely and extremely unlikely.
