A shoplifting suspect who was bundled to the ground was not arrested after staff at the shop he allegedly stole from did not want to press charges.

The man was detained at the Co-Op store in Station Road, near Norwood Junction station, at about 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.

Police were then called to the scene.

But a Croydon Police spokesman said: “When police arrived nobody appears to have wanted to substantiate any allegations.

“No arrest was made.”

Hove Ex-Pat says...

A couple of years ago I saw a man shoplifting from the Co-Op store in Waterloo Road, Epsom. I challenged the thief, but he pushed his way out. Then I told a member of staff at the checkout, who was not in the slightest bit interested. That attitude from him, did come as a shock then, but this as well says something is very wrong in the staff training at the Co-Op.
