A project to slash the number of children at risk of abuse or neglect has been launched in Croydon.
Volunteers recruited by the charity CSV go into homes and help families who need extra support because of issues including mental health problems and drug and alcohol misuse.
The volunteers supporting families (VSF) scheme is run in partnership with Croydon Council.
It was officially launched at an open day on Monday where social workers and prospective volunteers learned more about the project.
The council’s head of the children in need service, Sukriti Sen, said: “This project is invaluable to Croydon Council’s social care teams.
“It provides extra support to families who are in the greatest need and Croydon are excited to welcome CSV volunteers supporting families.”
CSV is currently looking to recruit volunteers who want to help a family in their area.
Volunteers need to be available for at least six months for an hour or two per week.
