Instead of cutting a ribbon Croydon's mayor showed off her computer skills by opening a school’s ICT department with the click of a mouse.

Councillor Yvette Hopley’s click launched an interactive presentation which had been written by Year 6 pupils at Warlingham Park School.

It showed the benefits of the upgrades to the computing facilities including a data network which enables information to travel around the building at 1Gbps, about 80 times faster than an average internet connection.

And the ICT suite has been refurbished with 18 new PCs, funded by the school’s parents association.

Headteacher Mike Donald said: "The fruits of this project are the result of a remarkable joint effort and we are very grateful for the tireless efforts of both Acuity Unified Communications and our parents' association.

"We have now widened the future opportunities of every pupil in the school."
