After being closed for several years a bowling green is back and it will soon be open for business.

As well as lawn bowls, the bowling hut in Coulsdon Memorial Ground will be the ticket office for the pitch and putt and have golf equipment.

This will mean the putting green will be available for public use again.

The hut will initially be open every afternoon during the summer from 2pm onwards.

The April 19 reopening comes after 18 months of hard work by the Friends of Marlpit Lane Bowling Green, after Croydon Council stopped maintaining the bowling green in 2011.

Friends have restored the derelict bowling hut and carried out emergency repair work on the green.

The green is now in playing condition, although maintenance and upgrade work will continue throughout the season.

Once the season opens, casual bowlers can buy tickets from the hut, while season tickets are already available from the Friends website.

A season ticket costs £25 and covers play and equipment hire for the year.

All funds go towards maintaining the green and equipment
