Celebrations in South Norwood to mark the birth of the Hare Krishna Lord Rama were a colourful affair with dancing, food and drama.
More than 400 festivalgoers came together for the event organised by the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKC) at the Oshwal Centre, Enmore Road.
Temple president Ananta Vijay Das told the gathering, which included Croydon’s mayor Councillor Yvette Hopley and Croydon North MP Steve Reed, how the birth of Lord Rama is celebrated as marking a new era where good triumphs over evil.
They enjoyed a vegetarian Indian feast, traditional Indian dances as well as the play Narada Muni and the Cobbler, performed by the Bhaktivedanta Players.
ISKC spokesman Nabhi Nandan Das said: “The celebration of the appearance of Lord Ramachandra (an avatar of Lord Krishna) took place with great zeal and enthusiasm.
“Such events do play an important role in building up the integrity in the region and we wish to have a lot of such occasions in the coming times.”
