Coffee drinkers are being asked to do their bit to put Croydon on the map in a nationwide recycling competition.

The Land Registry office in Trafalgar House, 1 Bedford Park, Croydon, is trying to be the place which collects the most coffee packaging waste over the next six months.

To do this it wants people to drop off their used coffee refill bags, coffee bean bags, single serving coffee stick and sachets and coffee jar lids.

The contest is part of the Coffee Packaging Brigade, a recycling fundraising scheme set up by coffee company Kenco and recycling experts TerraCycle.

Land Registry registrations executive Karen Fletcher said: “We joined the Coffee Packaging Brigade in December 2012 and, to date, people in Croydon have helped to save 812 units of coffee packaging waste from landfill, raising £20.24 for Croydon Animal Samaritans at the same time.”

Anyone who wants to donate can visit the Land Registry between the hours of 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
