Getting treatment for eye problems is now a lot easier and closer to home as Moorfields Eye Hospital takes over Croydon's eye care services.

The change will mean patients will be seen by Moorfields staff and will have access to all of its specialist services much closer to home.

As well as running Moorfields Eye Centre at Croydon University Hospital in the ophthalmology department, Moorfields will also be working in the newly created community eye clinic at Purley War Memorial Hospital.

Anyone who has very complex needs will be treated at the specialist Moorfields Eye Centre based at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

NHS Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group chairman Dr Anthony Brzezicki said: “We are pleased patients in Croydon will receive the high quality, expert eye care that Moorfields is renowned for delivering.

“We have been working closely with Croydon Health Services and Moorfields to redesign and re-commission the service and to ensure a smooth transition for Croydon patients.”
