A Croydon care home will feature on BBC’s Panorama this evening as they investigate care for the elderly.

The programme is set to include footage from inside the Oban House care home in South Croydon.

It shows 98-year-old Yvonne Grant, who died in January last year, crying out for help more than 320 times in just one hour.

The footage was taken after her granddaughter Vanessa Evans placed a hidden camera in the room.

The video also shows Ms Grant asking 45 times to be taken to the toilet over a two and a half hour period.

The Panorama investigation is looking into abuse at care homes and features footage from a different care home in Essex where staff were seen slapping a resident.

Panorama: Behind Closed Doors: Elderly Care Exposed, BBC One, 9pm, Wednesday April 30.

This has brought tears to my eyes and is so much more widespread than people are aware of, our old and fragile are robbed of their pride and dignity in so many instances, why make their sufferance even greater? My heart goes out to the elderly who are defenceless in these situations, to be a nurse/carer you have to care, to tend patients you have to possess patience, get out of the profession if you can't treat the vulnerable with respect. And yes, I am speaking with experience in regards to another Croydon care home of which now has a new manager and hopefully has improved

Care Home work used to be about Nursing. Then Margaret Mead privatised them, and wages dropped by 40%. I kid you not.

Now you only get glorified cleaners coming in, as the skilled staff ( like ex-Nurses ) go for the better pay elsewhere. What? They have to. They have bills to pay. This is the real world.

And you wonder why you now have these issues. This job used to be a true Career. Now it's simply a job on the side. Bad pay and longer hours do A LOT of harm. Tired staff make mistakes, and stressed staff grow to hate.

You voted Tory, and you did not want to pay Tax. This is your handiwork. I hope you're proud.

The service provider should be struck off. They are just as responsible as the life-forms that behaved in such a manner.
