Police are looking to track down burglars who ran off with £20,000 shoes signed by Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, who has himself appealed for their return.

The thieves stole the orange Puma trainers - identical to those in which the Jamaican sprinter set the 100m world record in 2009 - along with a framed photo from a warehouse in Gloucester Road, Croydon.

The photo sees Bolt posing by a stopclock showing 9.58 seconds, the fastest 100m in history, after setting the time at the World Championships in Berlin.

The burglary happened between 10.30pm on April 26 and 5.45am on April 28.

Bolt took to Twitter to appeal for the burglars to return the stolen shoes after hearing the news this afternoon.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact Det Con Sheree Yates, of Croydon police, on 020 3276 2287 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
