A tough twosome of TV adventurers flew in by helicopter to give survival tips to Croydon scouts yesterday.
Bear Grylls and Steve Backshall, presenter of BBC's Deadly 60, dropped into Pinewood Scout Centre in Shirley to talk about life in the wild.
Grylls, who is head of the Scouting Association, watched 40 scouts taking part in a survival camp gut fish, stuff them with potatoes and cook them in the embers of fires they had lit themselves.
He also met 70 cubs who were taking part in climbing, archery, shooting, raft-building and kayaking challenges to win their Chief Scout's Silver Award.
The adventurer, star of TV survival shows including Worst Case Scenario, Man Vs Wild and Born Survivor, became the youngest ever chief scout at age 35 in 2009.
He visited the centre in Bear in the Air, his tour of the UK designed to inspire young people.
