Overweight children can get help to live a healthier lifestyle by attending a free weight management programme which is backed by Croydon Council.

Each Alive n Kicking (ANK) course runs over a 12 week period and is aimed at four to 12-year-olds.

The youngsters and their families will get guidance on how to develop healthier habits.

GPs, practice nurses, school nurses, health visitors, school staff and families themselves will be able to make referrals to the programme.

The council’s director of public health Dr Mike Robinson said: “This scheme is a great way of encouraging healthy eating in the home as it involves the family as a whole.

“Helping people to eat healthier and be more active is a key part of the council’s Heart Town programme to tackle coronary heart disease.”

The Weight Management Centre company is running the scheme in the borough for the next two years.
