Five men have been arrested after passengers were robbed on a late night train and police have issued a picture of another man they want to trace.

The four suspects from Croydon, aged 18, 19, 20 and 22, and a 19-year-old from Merton have all been bailed until next Thursday after their arrests on suspicion of robbery.

British Transport Police (BTP) detectives are now asking for help to trace a man who they think will be able to help the investigation into thefts on a train travelling from London Victoria to Brighton.

The incident took place on April 18 on board the 12.25am service.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Mark Agrippa said: “Just after 1am the train was held at Gatwick Airport station after a number of passengers reported that their property had been stolen.

“I’m very keen to speak to the man pictured, as I think he may be able to greatly assist our investigation. If you recognise him, or have any other information which might assist us, please get in touch.”

Officers have been pursuing several lines of enquiry, including taking witness statements from the victims and analysing CCTV footage from on board the train and at a number of stations.
