A car which was broken into the previous night was set on fire this morning.

Firefighters managed to stop the flames spreading from the boot and back seats of the black Mini after being called to the scene in Carmichael Road, South Norwood, at about 1.45am.

But it is still considered to be a write-off due to the damage.

The vehicle’s back window had been smashed on Saturday night and police are investigating whether these two incidents are linked.

It took a crew from Woodside fire station about 30 minutes to put out the blaze.

They were at the scene for about an hour in total, liaising with the police and the owner of the car.
