A 40-year-old man arrested during a police raid in which a dog was shot dead has been charged with kidnap, GBH with intent and assault by penetration.
Steven Bennett, of Seneca Road, Thornton Heath, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Croydon Crown Court on July 25.
Officers arrested him on July 10 as part of their investigation into the assault of a woman in Brigstock Road.
When they went to an address in Seneca Road to make the arrest they were confronted by a pitbull type dog.
They attempted to restrain the dog and it was then shot by a firearms officer.
One officer received a minor injury.
The Directorate of Professional Standards is investigating the incident and the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
