Charlie Steel of Wandsworth Demons Aussie Rules Football Club has been selected for the GB squad ahead of the Australian Rules Football International Cup.

The 21-year-old is one only 13 players in the British AF Leagues heading down under to join 14 team-mates, already based in Australia, for the tri-yearly tournament.

The action kicks off on August 10 when the British Bulldogs, ranked seven in the world, face France, ahead of clashes with Naura and Fiji.

Steel said: “I am delighted to be selected. I am a sports fanatic, but most passionate about rugby and football.

“To me, AFL is a faster paced, more skillful version of rugby and more physical than football.

“It’s this unique blend of physicality and skill that makes it the ultimate test for a sportsperson.”

The Wandsworth Demons play in the London AFL Premiership, and they are due to do battle with West London Wildcats on Saturday in the grand final play off.

The action takes place at the Sir Joseph Hood memorial recreation ground in Motspur Park from 11am.
