Detectives investigating an incident at a school where a mystery man tried to collect a child who did not know him have arrested a teenager.

The 17-year-old was arrested yesterday and he is in custody at a south London police station.

The incident happened at about 12.20pm on July 21 at Beulah Junior School, Beulah Road, Thornton Heath.

A man went to the school and told staff he was there to collect a named child.

Teachers spoke to the child, who did not recognise the person, but he then left before staff were able to establish who he was.

Staff at the school contacted police and officers from Croydon CID have been investigating since.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
