Police today appealed for witnesses after an elderly woman died after being hit by a car.

The 77-year-old was struck in Brighton Road, Purley, at around 8.30pm on Friday, August 8. 

Paramedics took her to a south London hospital with critical injuries, but she died two days later. 

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man, stopped after the collision and was interviewed under caution by police.

The victim's next of kin are aware of her death.
