Celebrity supporters got sporty at a fun day to promote a charity that works to get ethnic minorities to sign up as blood, bone marrow and organ donors.

They included stars of Channel 4’s reality show Gogglebox – Sandy and Queen B – who took part in the 5km run at the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) event on Sunday before meeting fans and having their pictures taken.

Showing their skills on the football field later on at Lloyd Park were five-a-side teams including the ACLT All-stars, which included comedians Curtis Walker, from the Real McCoy, and Jocelyn Jess Esien, who starred in comedy sketch show Little Miss Jocelyn.

ACLT was founded by the parents of Daniel De Gale in 1996 after their son had leukaemia diagnosed.

The 21-year-old died from an illness unrelated to cancer in 2008.

His mother Beverley De Gale said: “The day was held to give something back to the community as well as raise awareness of the charity.

“It was a fun, interactive day for everyone and lots of people signed up on the register to be a bone marrow, blood or organ donor.”
