A man was stabbed in broad daylight in Thornton Heath this afternoon.
Whitehorse Road has been closed by police in both directions between Windmill Road and St James's Road following the violence.
London Ambulance Service said it was called to at 4.45pm and was treating a man for stab wounds.
It sent the London Air Ambulance and two road ambulances to the scene.
Witnesses said the victim was taken to hospital in an ambulance escorted by police.
Neither a Metropolitan Police spokesman nor a London Ambulance Service spokeswoman were immeadiately able to supply details of the victim's condition.
Transport for London reported tailbacks stretching to Wellesley Road and said bus routes 50, 75, 157, 450, 468 and X68 were being diverted.
