Paralympic bronze medallist Aaron McKibbin is heading to his first ITT Para Table Tennis World Championship with two things on his mind.
The 22-year-old from Wandsworth will compete in the GB men’s class 6-8 and 9-10 teams.
While the competition, which starts on Saturday, is McKibbin’s first world showdown, it is not the first time he has played in China, having appeared in the China Open in 2012.
But while competing for world glory in the home of table tennis excites McKibbin, he has his level-head firmly screwed on.
He said: “Training has been good, particularly the last block since we came back from a break in July.
“The excitement is kicking in and it’s been good to work on things we felt we needed to change. “But I am still struggling with my consistency and I am not where I want it to be.
“I know I am getting better and I just need to keep working hard. I believe I can compete with anybody in my class on my day.”
He added: “I’ve been getting good results but I need to take it one match at a time and I believe that if I focus then I can achieve a lot.”
