Resplendent in their brightly coloured costumes, hundreds of festivalgoers came together to celebrate one of the world’s oldest street festivals.
Celebrations for Rathayatra on Sunday saw people parading through Croydon town centre pulling Lord Jagannath – a form of the Indian god Lord Krishna – on a beautifully decorated wooden cart.
This was accompanied with a live band and followers singing and dancing.
A vegetarian feast was then served at Park Hill recreation ground, where there was more music, dancing and drama.
Rathayatra originated in east India more than 5,000 years ago and has been celebrated in Croydon since 2011.
It was organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Croydon business improvement district.
