Campaigners embarking on a £100,000 fundraising mission need help to get their playground in Old Coulsdon completely rebuilt.

The Friends of Grange Park Play Area (FGPPA) group has been formed to replace the facilities as its members say it is run down and dilapidated.

To get the funding they need for the works they need to show potential funders they have asked the community about its wishes for the play area and so they have launched a consultation.

FGPPA spokeswoman Michelle Frances said they hope to get at least 500 responses to their survey, which will be running throughout autumn.

If they managed to get the funding they need the group hopes to have the works completed by the end of next August.

Ms Frances said: “The play area is in the centre of the village and in a chronic state of neglect and has been rundown for some years but it is very highly used.

“It’s usable because you could not close it down and it is not unsafe but it is dilapidated and very tired looking and a bit of an eyesore.”

She added: “We want to get it completely renovated and it’s going to cost about £100,000 to do this.

“We want to involve you, the community and hear what you have to say. “Do you think the play area is run down and in need of a full refurbishment? “We need to know how often you currently use it. “What kind of equipment would you like to see?”

As well as the consultation they are running a competition in the nearby schools for children to design their ideal playground so they can have their say about what they want to see in the park.

The £100,000 estimated cost includes a complete overhaul of the area including new foundations.
